1799 - Matthew Flinders explores Morten Bay.

23 October 1823 - Surveyor General John Oxley set out from Sydney to "survey Port Curtis, Moreton Bay and Port Bowen, with a view to forming convict settlements there".

1824 - The first convict colony was established at Redcliffe Point.

1825 - the convict colony was moved to the site of the current Brisbane Central Business District.

1838 - The area was first opened for Free Settlement.

1839 - The convict colony was closed.

1842 - Morton Bay is formally declared a free settlement.

1859 - Queensland was formally established as a self-governing colony of Britain separate from New South Wales.

1864 - Severe flooding of the Brisbane river occurs.

1879 - The first railway in Brisbane is established from Ipswich to Roma Street Station.

1885 - Trams begin operating in Brisbane.

1893 - The Black February floods cause sever flooding in the region and devestate the city

1897 - Severe flooding of the Brisbane river occurs.

1899 - The Queensland Museum leaves the old State Library Building and moves into "Exhibition Hall" on Gregory Terrace, Bowen Hills.

1902 - Brisbane is officially designated as a city

1912 - Australia's first General Strike occurs in Brisbane after Tramway operators are stood down because of wearing Union badges. The strike lasts 5 weeks.

1924 - the City of Brisbane Act was passed by the Queensland Parliament, amalgamating the City of Brisbane and the City of South Brisbane; the Towns of Hamilton, Ithaca, Sandgate, Toowong, Windsor and Wynnum; and the Shires of Balmoral, Belmont, Coorparoo, Enoggera, Kedron, Moggill, Sherwood, Stephens, Taringa, Tingalpa, Toombul and Yeerongpilly to form the current City of Greater Brisbane, now known simply as City of Brisbane, in 1925.

1930 - Brisbane City Hall completed and opened.

1939 - The Forgan Smith building of the University of Queensland opened.

1940 - The Storey Bridge is completed.

1942 - Rioting breaks out between US and Australian Servicemen stationed in Brisbane on the 26th and 27th of November. The Battle of Brisbane results in one Australian soldier dead, and hundreds of Australia and US servicemen injured.

1960 - The first modern apartment building, Torbreck at Highgate Hill, is opened.

1961 - Clem Jones is elected Major of Brisbane, and begins major infrastructure works, modenising the city.

1969 - Trams cease operating in Brisbane.

1974 - Severe flooding of the Brisbane river occurs.

1982 - Brisbane hosts the Commonwealth Games.

1988 - Brisbane hosts World Expo 88, held on reclaimed land at South Bank.

2001 - Brisbane hosts the Goodwill Games.

11 January, 2:30pm (AEST) - The Brisbane River breaks its banks, leading to evacuations in the Brisbane CBD, and the suburbs of Fortitude Valley and West End.

13 January - The Brisbane River peaks at a lower than expected level, 4.46 meters in Brisbane City.

2 March - Trevor "Sledge" Anthony, NRL Halfback, breaks contract with the Sydney Roosters and moves to Brisbane to play with the Brisbane Broncos after his mother is diagnosed with a life threatening illness. Sledge, a Moros, joins the Brisbane Consillium.

5 March - Performing his Street Mage act, Danny Nevada awakens to the Path of the Mighty.

10 March - An Army Doctor on active duty in Afganistan, Arawn awakens to the Path of Doom.

12 March - After performing for an SCA event at the Abbey Museum, Caboolture, Brighid Awakens to the Path of Ecstasy.

16 March - Working late one night Arbiter awakens to the Path of Scourging.

25 March - Arawn lands back in Brisbane after being placed on "indefinited medical leave" from the Australian Army.

31 March - Dalia Awakens to the Path of Thistle while working the Toowoomba Show.

1 May, 10:28am (AEST) - The Event occurs.

8 May - An Emergency Consillium meeting is called.
